ABOUT SHEA BUTTER
This
is a butter traditionally used by African women for their baby's
skin as well as their own. A perfect natural healing barrier, I wish
I had known about this stuff when my children where babies!
A
staple ingredient in body butters and lotion bars, there are few
products on the shelf that begin to match the quality of a good
handmade skin care product containing a generous amount of a
naturally processed shea butter - or even a little.
No
chemicals have been used in the processing of any of the butters you
will find at Skincare Naturals.

USDA Certified Organic Raw Shea Yellow is a beautiful shea with a light golden colour purchased from a widow's collective in Ghana. This shea has a slight scent - not overpowering - just about right for those who enjoy the authentic scent of a pure shea butter. I love that it has a moist texture and goes on very smoothly. Must try for a shea butter fan and perfect if you are looking for a certified organic product.

Ivory
Ghana shea for those who like their
unrefined shea light in colour and lighter in scent with the same
benefits of using an unrefined shea. I find this shea to be amazingly
creamy. This is the shea I would choose if trying to get a shea
closer in characteristics to refined shea - lighter in colour and
scent with a nice smooth feel.

Beige
Ghana
This
shea butter comes from the same supplier as the Ivory. The two
butters are much alike except that the colour of this shea is a light
coffee colour, a natural for formulations containing cocoa butter,
vanilla or coffee type scents.
Note: The Ghana Shea Butters are out of stock at this time. Due to scheduling difficulites, I have not been able to get more in, but am hoping to have it in September. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Organic
Refined
It
is with great pleasure that I have been able to find some organic
refined shea butter. It is white and unscented. Give a creamy, smooth
and soft feel to your formulations. The option to use if you want to
add the texture and moisturizing benefits of shea, but don't want to
wrestle with the scent or would like a white product. See my latest

Creamy
Velvet White Body Butter Recipe - This
body butter is white and smooth. It has a creamy constancy unlike
many body butters that I have made before. I think this is due to the
beeswax, it also gives a slight barrier effect, almost like a very
light vaseline. This would make a wonderful diaper cream to keep baby
bums from getting irritated (wonder if it works for the other end
:0))
I
have been using it on the dry skin on my feet and legs that are
prone to dryness in the summer with noticable results in one day. My
tan has taken on a glow as well. The star ingredient in this recipe
is the hint of Monoi de Tahiti for an amazing summer scent
reminiscent of the tropics. See below for recipe.

UNREFINED
SHEA NUT BUTTER FROM GHANA - Ivory
One
of the new additions to our Shea Butter family, I have been wanting
to get my hands on this butter for literally years. Finally I had the
opportunity to get some and I did! I'm hoping it will be a regular in
our selection, but you better get some now as I can't guarantee it.
It's
light in colour, light in scent, even the customs lady commented on
how nice it smelled, how often do you get that for unrefined shea butter?
UNREFINED
SHEA NUT BUTTER FROM GHANA - Beige
My
curiosity finally got the best of me, I have been so pleased with
the Ivory Shea that I had to try the beige. I was surprised at how
much I like it!
It has a "real" beige colour, almost a
light coffee colour. Another option when colour counts!

When
I asked the lady in charge of the manufacture of her shea butter
about fair trade practices this is what she told me.
"I
have worked with the women in a village called Wureinshie in the
Northern part of Ghana for 3 years. I like the idea of changing the
world one person at a time. I am very close to them and help in
anyway I can.
Aside
of that I pay a good wage to the women who work for me I pay 3 times
as much as the Government recommended wages. I have 13 women working
for me. We have certificates of analysis and we have certification by
the Ghana Standards Board."

ORGANIC
SHEA NUT BUTTER - White Refined
Although
I prefer the unrefined version of most ingredients, I think that
this butter has gotten a bad rap on the internet. While fresh
unrefined is a beautiful and healing butter, this refined shea is a
wonderful ingredient for silky skin and a nice ingredient to use if
you want a white, scentless base to work from.
A
little less sticky to work with than the unrefined, it imparts a
silky soft feel to the skin. No chemicals are used in the refining process.

Creamy
Velvet White Body Butter
Melt beeswax over
a double boiler. Turn off burner but leave your melting pot in the water.
Stir in Vegithix
to melt. Remove pot from heat (water).
Stir in organic
Refined Shea butter and Squalane.
Stir in Virgin
Coconut Oil and Monoi de Tahiti.
Mix thoroughly as
it cools. Pour into containers while still pourable but mix as long
as possible (this will help prevent grains)
