TALKING
OUT LOUD
I
was happy to get out and get some soap made.
I
wanted a few different effects - I wanted to make my own fruit wash
soap with 100% organic coconut oil, and I wanted to make a Summertime
Blend Soap - for a little refreshment in the heat we've been having
the last few days - but didn't want to make 2 seperate batches so I
decided to try something a little different.
So
here is an example of what you can do with a little ingenuity. Also,
I cooked it in our van, why not take advantage of the heat? I
definitely didn't want to turn the oven on!

MULTI
PURPOSE SUMMERTIME BLEND SOAP
TO
MAKE 4LB BASE
I
used an empty 4L plastic ice cream bucket to mix this batch in, it
was just the right size, and had the advantage of being flexible so
that I could squeeze it a bit for easy pouring. Must be moved
carefully for the same reason.
I
weighed it out, the full batch not counting the container weighed
100 oz. After I mixed it up, I poured 50 oz into one of the molds
(actually there was a bit left, the mold I used held about 35 oz)
Then
I added
Scented
with last issue's Multi Purpose Summertime Essential Oil Blend
-
.9
oz lavender
essential oil (lavandin
will work as well, it has a lighter scent)
-
.6
oz mint
essential oil
(your preference as to variety. Spearmint will generally give a
fresher scent, peppermint is a bit sweeter. Japanese Peppermint is
quite sharp.)
Mixed
it up and poured into the remaining mold(s).
A full coconut oil
blend is extremely cleansing and bubbly but may be too squeaky clean
for normal skin so I added the extra oils. This thinned the remaining
soap batch considerably. 100% coconut oil soap does take a bit longer
to trace as a blended recipe and is firmer and harder to cut.
The scented
version smells great! I had a shower with it on a hot day, washed my hair as well, it came out feeling a little thicker but not coated, and then
went for a bike ride, it kept me refreshed. Then I washed with it
when I got
back
and had another shot of refreshment. I didn't use moisturizer after.
It left my face feeling refreshed but not dry. Of course this will be
highly individual to your own skin type. And as with all soap, keep
it out of your eyes!

SOAPS IN
THE MOLD

I used
covers from plastic totes as a bottom tray and lid.
Make It!
You may want to
make a smaller batch, ingredient kit (excluding coconut oil) is
available at a discount for a 2lb batch.
Purchase 2oz black
seed oil and 1 - 50 ml bottle of Summertime Blend (use
the left over in a spritzer bottle - see last
issue for instructions) and get your Macadamia
Nut Oil (1oz) free. You can use Coconut Oil RBD (refined,
bleached and Deodorized) for the base soap or use our Organic
Natural Coconut.

SPECIAL
ANNOUNCEMENT - SKN Blog is up!
I
have finally been able to move my old Skincare Naturals site to the
new server. It has blog capabilities so I will be updating the SKN
Blog regularly. You can subscribe to
it by RSS to be notified when ever a new entry is added.
I've
been using the Site
Build It software. The whole set up
is online so you can access it from any computer, making it easy to
work away from your desk if you have a laptop, and also making it
easy to get help if you want to hire someone to set it up for you or
share some of the work load.
I
am very pleased with the ease of use, it is so much faster to add
pages than the html software I am presently using for this site. You
don't even need to know html to put up a basic page. You have a month
to decide, if you don't like it, you get your money back.
If
you have wanted a website but been afraid of the learning curve, you
may want to check it out.
Site Build It!
Have
a Great Day!
